SlapShot SDK confirms compliance with NIST SP-500-399

Chantilly, VA — January 5, 2026 — Sciometrics is pleased to confirm that the SlapShot SDK is compliant with NIST Special Publication 500-399 — the federal specification for certification testing of contactless fingerprint acquisition devices.
NIST released SP-500-399 on April 6, 2023 as the culmination of a decade of work by NIST and its Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) partners. Sciometrics has been a CRADA member since 2016, and our contactless capture technology has been engineered against the specification since its earliest drafts.
To support self-certification by technology providers, NIST also developed the Fingerprint Registration and Comparison Tool (NFRaCT). The NFRaCT methodology produces two pass/fail scores per print: a Scale Factor (must fall between 94% and 106% of ground truth) and a Matching Score (must equal or exceed 15,000 in a government or commercial AFIS, or 5,000 against RISC).
In a 500-finger test across 50 subjects, every finger captured by SlapShot fell within the passing Scale Factor range — with all results between 0.94 and 1.06 — and at least two fingers per hand exceeded the RISC matching cutoff. The overwhelming majority of fingers passed.
